Job Description

Due to continuing growth and significant client appointments, we are recruiting for an experienced solicitor (minimum 5 years PQE) to join Harper Macleod's highly acclaimed Dispute Resolution team.We are one of the largest litigation teams in the country, representing clients Scotland-wide and routinely instructed in some of the highest-profile cases in the Scottish Courts. The team and many of our individual practitioners are consistently recognised by Chambers & Partners and The Legal 500.

This role will focus mainly on Public Sector litigation, supporting partners Jennifer Jack and Calum Gee,  who are widely recognised for their expertise in Public and Administrative law, Parliamentary & Public Affairs, Civil Liberties & Human Rights and Public Inquiries. Your work will principally involve advising and representing clients on public and administrative law issues, including on legislation, statutory interpretation and the powers and duties of public bodies; and representing clients in court challenges such as Judicial Review and Appeals, in specialist First Tier Tribunals and in public inquiries. Experience in these areas of the law is preferred.

The successful applicant will be a client-focused self-starter, who is organised, with excellent inter-personal and technical skills and an attention to detail. The applicant should be able to work confidently in a fast-moving environment and be able to handle a challenging and varied workload, often with tight timescales set by courts/ tribunals/ inquiries. The successful candidates will join a culture that depends upon each team member working effectively and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary group, where support and encouragement is built-in. Jennifer and Calum are both based in our Edinburgh office and the successful candidate would be expected to undertake their office-based work from there.
