Data & Digital Solicitor (3+ years')

Job Description

A highly regarded law firm is looking to recruit a data & digital solicitor to join its team in Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor with experience in data protection, privacy and commercial law to advise on complex matters for a diverse client base across a range of sectors.

The Role

The role will involve a broad range of data protection and digital advisory work, including data subject access requests (DSARs), privacy compliance and data rights management.

Responsibilities will include:

• Advising clients on UK GDPR, EU GDPR, PECR and wider data protection and privacy matters.
• Managing complex DSARs and data subject rights requests, including scoping, review, redaction and disclosure.
• Supporting clients with privacy compliance projects, data mapping, data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), international data transfers and incident response.
• Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, including data processing and data sharing agreements.
• Advising on IT, digital and intellectual property matters.
• Building strong client relationships and delivering practical, commercially focused advice.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues across different practice areas to deliver integrated client solutions.
• Contributing to client training, business development and the continued development of the practice.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

• At least 3 years' PQE, with experience in data protection, privacy and information law.
• Hands-on experience advising on DSARs and wider data subject rights, ideally involving complex or high-volume requests.
• A strong understanding of UK GDPR, EU GDPR and PECR.
• Experience drafting commercial contracts and advising on data and digital matters.
• Excellent communication and client relationship management skills.
• A pragmatic, commercially minded approach, with the ability to manage complex projects and advise on risk.
• Experience with privacy technology, AI governance, international data transfers or large-scale DSAR programmes would be advantageous.
