Job Description


We are delighted to be able to invite applications from qualified lawyers at all levels and Experienced Paralegals wanting to join our Scottish Catastrophic and Complex Injury Team. Our industry leading team led by Liz Jones is made up of 30 partners and 81 lawyers spread across the United Kingdom. For the more junior lawyers it provides a fantastic opportunity to develop both your skill set and careers alongside experts in this area. For the more senior lawyers the opportunity to expand on your already existing portfolio in a collaborative environment. 

Our National team whose clients are a mix of leading names in the insurance industry as well as household name corporates, provide effective claims solutions for cases of the utmost severity and complexity, be they traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, amputation or high value fatal accident claims, allowing our lawyers to build strategic partnerships.  Whether the instruction is for pre-emptive advice/investigations or upon litigation our aim to provide a clear strategy from the outset.  

 

What you will do?

  • Assist senior fee earners in our Glasgow office on complex and higher value cases including multi-million-pound claims
  • For more senior roles, build up your own case load of complex files, providing advice to clients, adhering to court deadlines and progressing cases to conclusion under the oversight of one of our partners or associates.
  • Ensure work is carried out effectively to meet the needs of the clients, the commercial requirements of the firm and the quality standards to include:
    • Adherence to internal and client SLAs, KPIs and protocols 
    • Achievement of agreed financial targets
    • Prompt billing and collection of WIP and disbursements where applicable 
    • Prompt and accurate provision of MI where applicable 
    • Applying appropriate and current technical expertise and case law where applicable
    • Effectively managing risk and compliance issues within each case, ensuring any emerging problems are escalated promptly to your supervisor in the first instance
    • Engaging with clients where appropriate to maximise opportunities to meet and build rapport with clients, at all times acting as an ambassador of the firm
    • Contribute to Business Development and client relationship activity in support of the Client Relationship Partner where required
    • Maintaining and developing technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions and reading appropriate publications 

 

Who you are

  • Previous experience of working or assisting on either Motor Personal Injury, EL/PL or Catastrophic and Complex Injury claims, or a keen interest in this area of law
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A high level of personal compliance with firm protocols and procedures
  • Good legal knowledge relevant to their area of expertise
  • An ability to adopt a commercial perspective to legal issues
  • The ability to be team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team
  • Excellent relationship and client handling skills. Able to deal confidently and professionally with clients on day to day activities
