We are now looking for a Scottish Qualified Lawyer to join our Legal Services Division’s (LSD) Advisory, Legislation and Litigation Strategy (ALLS) team on a full-time, permanent basis. Due to the nature of the work involved, this role is only suitable for full-time working. We are amenable to the possibility of a full-time working pattern (i.e. 37 hours) being compressed over four days.

The Role 

As a Scottish Qualified Lawyer, you will provide specialist legal advice and strategic support across a wide range of complex regulatory, policy and enforcement matters in Scotland.

Working as part of the Advisory, Legislation and Litigation Strategy team, you will advise on various areas, including health and safety law, statutory interpretation, policy development, secondary legislation and Scottish criminal and civil justice procedures. 

You will work closely with operational and policy colleagues, providing timely legal guidance on enforcement decisions, investigations and regulatory matters, while supporting the organisation in navigating complex legal risks and challenges.

Additionally, you will:

  • Deliver strategic, proportionate and risk-based legal advice to operational teams
  • Lead liaison activities with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service
  • Support responses to requests and demands from external legal bodies
  • Liaise with the Office of the Advocate General for Scotland and its solicitor agent
  • Support complex litigation, inquiries and regulatory matters
  • Provide legal training and development support to policy and operational colleagues

 

About You


To be considered as a Scottish Qualified Lawyer, you will need:

  • To be legally qualified in Scotland as a qualified practising Solicitor
  • A current full and unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland
  • A proven track record of advising on public law, from either a litigation or advisory perspective
  • Knowledge of Civil and Criminal justice practice and procedures in the Scottish legal system
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively in showing sound legal judgment
  • A law degree (or equivalent)
