Are you ready to build a long-term future in one of Scotland’s most unique and rewarding legal sectors? A leading national law firm is seeking to recruit an experienced solicitor to join its market-leading Rural Business and Land team.

Job Description

???????With offices in both Edinburgh and Glasgow and a client base that stretches across Scotland and beyond, this team advises on a remarkable variety of land-based work, offering legal and strategic counsel to estates, agricultural businesses, community organisations, investors, developers and public sector bodies.

This is a role for a solicitor who understands the deep value of rural land—not just in terms of heritage and tradition, but as a dynamic and evolving part of the Scottish economy. Whether you already have rural or agricultural property experience, or you're coming from a commercial real estate background and looking to specialise, this position offers you the chance to contribute to work that is both legally complex and commercially significant. The firm is known for offering a supportive, collaborative environment where you’ll be encouraged to build client relationships, shape your own career path, and develop your technical expertise.

Day-to-day, the work is varied and engaging. You’ll be advising on purchases and sales of estates, farms, forestry and rural land, guiding clients through residential and renewable development projects, and navigating challenging issues such as agricultural tenancies, title conditions, land reform and voluntary registration. You’ll support landowners and rural businesses on everything from boundary disputes to complex conveyancing, while also advising on sporting interests, leases, and contractual arrangements connected to land use and land ownership structures.

What makes this team stand out is not just its scale—the largest dedicated rural practice in Scotland—but its depth of expertise and its commitment to innovative, client-led advice. This is a practice that’s constantly evolving, staying at the forefront of the legal issues affecting rural Scotland, and helping clients navigate commercial, environmental and legislative change with confidence. You’ll be part of a highly respected group of lawyers who care deeply about what they do, and who work in an environment that balances professional challenge with flexibility and support.

The firm is open to applications from solicitors with between 4 and 10 years’ post-qualification experience. A background in rural property would be ideal, but the team is equally open to speaking with commercial property lawyers who are ready to specialise in this area and who can bring a thoughtful, client-focused approach to the work. What matters most is your interest in the rural sector, your ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and your desire to become part of a team where your voice will be heard and your career ambitions supported.

If you’re ready to take on a role that offers real variety, a strong sense of purpose, and the opportunity to work on some of the most interesting land and property matters in the country, we’d love to hear from you.
