Job Description

Project Manager, Temporary (up to 2 years), 35 hours per week, £59,500

It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland.

After more than a decade of campaigning for legislative reform, the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025 marks a fundamental shift in how legal services are regulated in Scotland.  As we continue to deliver one of the most significant programmes of regulatory reform in our history, we are looking for a talented and motivated Project Manager to join our team.

This role will lead the planning and delivery of projects that support the Society’s Regulatory Transformation Programme. This includes implementing new regulatory frameworks for Authorised Legal Businesses (ALBs) and Licensed Providers, representing a significant change in the regulation of the legal profession by moving from a system focused solely on individuals to one that also regulates firms. The role will also support the introduction of new transparency, reporting and regulatory oversight requirements.

The role involves working closely with colleagues, senior leadership and external stakeholders to deliver policy and Rules, and to manage the delivery of operational changes that ensure these frameworks are clear, proportionate and workable in practice.

Working with colleagues across the Society, senior stakeholders and external partners, you will help deliver major regulatory and organisational change, ensuring projects are delivered effectively, on time and within agreed scope.

The role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the implementation of a new regulatory framework for legal services in Scotland, helping to shape how legal services are regulated in the future while improving outcomes for consumers, the profession and the wider public.

At the centre of our organisation are the values of Respect, Openness, Progress, Inclusion and Integrity, which drive our teams to deliver the best possible service for the legal sector and beyond.

  • Lead the delivery of complex projects and change initiatives that support the Society's Regulatory Transformation Programme and strategic priorities
  • Develop and maintain project plans, milestones, dependencies and delivery schedules to ensure successful outcomes
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues and interdependencies, providing effective oversight and assurance
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, stakeholders and delivery partners to implement sustainable organisational change
  • Establish effective governance and reporting arrangements, providing clear information and recommendations to senior leaders and decision-making groups
  • Support business readiness, process improvement and change adoption activities to ensure successful implementation of new ways of working
  • Manage project resources, budgets and supplier relationships where appropriate

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of successfully delivering complex projects or workstreams
  • Strong planning, organisational and project coordination skills
  • Experience of managing risks, dependencies, governance and project reporting

  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, governance and change delivery
  • A collaborative, adaptable and results-focused approach

  • Experience of delivering significant business change, transformation or regulatory change projects
  • Professional project management qualification such as PRINCE2, APM or Agile
  • Experience of working within a regulated, public sector, professional membership or governance environment
