Job Description

 

We’re currently advertising our Grampian Highland and Islands (GHI) Legal Traineeship with anticipated start dates in August 2028.

We intend to advertise our National Traineeship on 18th September 2026 with anticipated intakes forAugust 2028 and February 2029.

The COPFS Legal Traineeship offers a wide range of experience and opportunities in the public prosecution service in Scotland. 

Both traineeships offer candidates the chance to undertake a range of responsibilities within the Procurator Fiscal’s offices. This will include preparation and presentation of cases in summary courts. If you successfully complete the traineeship you may enrol as a qualified solicitor in Scotland.

Trainees applying for the GHI board will be expected to remain in either Aberdeen or Inverness for the duration of their Traineeship. 

Trainees applying for the National board will be required to work in Procurator Fiscal’s offices throughout Scotland on rotation.

You may also spend a proportion of the traineeship working within another government agency.
