What if your next role put you at the forefront of complex industrial disease litigation—handling work that truly matters, while fast-tracking your development into a confident, well-rounded litigator?

Job Description

Too often, early-career solicitors are funnelled into narrow, repetitive caseloads with little room to grow. In a field like industrial disease, that can mean missing out on the breadth of exposure needed to properly understand the nuances of long-tail claims and the evolving legal landscape. But this opportunity offers something different.

QED Legal’s client, a leading national firm, is looking to appoint a Solicitor (NQ – 3 years’ PQE) to its expanding Insurance team in Glasgow, with a strong focus on industrial disease work. This is a role that combines early responsibility, high-quality cases, and the chance to build genuine expertise in a highly specialised and intellectually engaging area.

From the outset, you’ll take ownership of your own caseload, dealing predominantly with industrial disease claims—ranging from noise-induced hearing loss and asbestos-related conditions to more complex, emerging disease matters. You’ll handle files across both pre-litigated and litigated stages, developing your technical ability and confidence as you progress. Alongside this, you’ll gain exposure to higher-value, more complex cases, working closely with experienced colleagues on matters that will challenge and accelerate your development.

What sets this role apart is not just the quality of work, but the depth of specialism. Industrial disease litigation demands a forensic approach—understanding medical evidence, analysing historical employment practices, and navigating intricate liability issues. Here, you’ll build that expertise early, without being siloed or unsupported. You’ll still gain exposure to related areas such as employers’ liability and public liability, giving you a well-rounded foundation while developing a clear specialism.

You’ll work with a diverse client base, including major insurers, corporate clients, and public sector organisations, giving you valuable insight into the commercial and human impact of disease claims. Your day-to-day work will involve investigating liability, reviewing medical and expert evidence, liaising with clients and counsel, and progressing claims strategically through to resolution.

Crucially, this is a firm that invests in its people. You’ll be supported by a collaborative team with deep expertise in industrial disease, encouraged to develop your technical skills, and given opportunities to get involved in client relationship work and business development as your career progresses. It’s an environment where you’re trusted early, supported consistently, and given the tools to build a long-term, successful career.

If you’re a Glasgow-based solicitor looking to specialise in industrial disease while still developing as a broader litigator—and want a role that offers real responsibility, variety, and progression—this is an opportunity worth exploring.
