It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland. We have an opportunity within the Professional Conduct Team for a Fiscal who must be Scottish solicitor holding an unrestricted practising certificate.
At the centre of our organisation are the values of Respect, Openness, Progress, Inclusion, and Integrity which drive our teams to deliver the best possible service for the legal sector and beyond.
You would be joining a team that is responsible for dealing with all eligible conduct complaints about Scottish solicitors. We are a team of almost 30, who are dedicated and motivated to handle conduct complaints against Scottish solicitors and improve the complaints system.
This role reports into the Disciplinary Proceedings Manager. You will be mainly responsible for all work associated with presenting conduct complaints to the Scottish Solicitors’ Discipline Tribunal (SSDT). These are the more serious cases we deal with. You will deal with interesting and technical work, as we seek to prosecute cases robustly but fairly – respecting all parties involved in the process. You will have extensive opportunity to provide legal advice and opinions on questions of procedure, statutory interpretation and policy as well as advising on the merits of cases, including appeals.
This is an important and rewarding role. You will be busy and play a key role in public protection, maintaining confidence in the legal profession and upholding proper professional standards and conduct amongst solicitors. You will need an agile approach as the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025 and the announced change to the standard of proof before the SSDT are implemented. You will have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to shape the role and how our work is done.
