I'm working with an established Aberdeen practice that is thinking seriously about succession within its Family offering. They are looking for an experienced Family Law Solicitor who may have reached a point in their career where they're beginning to wonder, "where do I go from here?"
Perhaps you're happy enough where you are. You enjoy the work, have good relationships with your clients and colleagues, but realistically, the opportunities above you are limited.
If that sounds familiar, this could be worth exploring.
This is a genuine succession opportunity for someone who wants to become an important part of the future of an established Family practice. It's not about making promises of progression that may or may not happen several years down the line. The longer-term opportunity is one of the reasons the firm is recruiting now.
You'll most likely already be operating at Senior Solicitor or Associate level, although I'm much more interested in your experience and ambitions than the title you currently hold.
You'll have a strong background in private Family Law and be comfortable managing your own caseload across separation and divorce, financial provision, cohabitation, pre and post-nuptial agreements and child-related matters. You'll also have experience dealing with more complex cases and be confident advising clients throughout what can often be an incredibly difficult period in their lives.
Strong client relationships will be important. You'll be someone who enjoys taking ownership of your work, providing pragmatic advice and building trust with your clients. You'll also have good negotiation and litigation experience and be comfortable dealing with matters both in and out of court.
As your role develops, you'll have the opportunity to become increasingly involved in the wider direction of the Family practice, developing relationships, building your profile and contributing your own ideas about how the team moves forward.
And importantly, there is somewhere for you to go.
The salary is £50,000 – £65,000 depending on experience, together with a generous benefits package including a personal performance bonus paid when you exceed your fee target, a separate firm-wide discretionary bonus, generous annual leave including a Christmas shutdown, private healthcare and pension.
You don't need to have decided that you want to leave your current firm to have a conversation with me.
If you're an experienced Family Law Solicitor who has started thinking about what the next five or ten years of your career might look like, I'd be very happy to tell you more.
