Job Description

Job Title: Executry Paralegal
Location: Elgin, Moray
Hours: Full-time preferred (Part-time hours will be considered)
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience + bonus scheme

Our established private client team is seeking an experienced Executry Paralegal to manage a diverse caseload of estates under Scottish law. While this position is primarily based in our Elgin office, we offer excellent flexibility and will consider remote or hybrid working arrangements for the right applicant. Whether you are looking for a supportive local team environment or a flexible setup to run your own caseload, we provide the platform for you to thrive with minimal supervision.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse variety of estates under Scottish law from initial client instruction through to final distribution.
  • Assume responsibility for a combination of existing executry cases and incoming new instructions.
  • Review and progress ongoing matters efficiently, picking up ongoing files midway through the process to ensure seamless continuity of service.
  • Prepare initial documentation and inventories and successfully obtain Confirmation.
  • Draft inheritance tax accounts and confidently navigate HMRC requirements.
  • Prepare final estate accounts with precise attention to detail.
  • Collaborate closely with partners, secretarial staff, and our cashroom team.

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven Autonomy: Demonstrable experience running an independent executry caseload, with the technical confidence to operate effectively under minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability: The confidence to pick up ongoing files seamlessly and drive them to completion.
  • Qualifications: A qualified Executry/Private Client Paralegal (Law Society Accredited status required). A STEP qualification is highly desirable, though not essential.
  • Client Focus: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build quick rapport with clients during sensitive times.
  • Technical Skills: Strong IT skills, including familiarity with relevant online systems (Registers, HMRC, etc.). Experience using LawWare would be helpful.
