Job Description
Employment Law Associate - Glasgow
c£65k - £75k + Extensve Benefits Package
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Employment Lawyer to join a highly regarded and successful team advising clients across a broad range of sectors.
You will work with an interesting and diverse client base, from high-growth and owner-managed businesses to public sector organisations and established national employers, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice across the full spectrum of employment law.
The role offers a varied mix of contentious and non-contentious work, with a particular focus on contentious employment matters and tribunal litigation. You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of matters, build strong client relationships and further develop your expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment.
It’s about:
- Employment disputes – Advising on unfair dismissal, discrimination, whistleblowing, breach of contract and other complex workplace disputes.
- Tribunal litigation – Preparing and defending Employment Tribunal proceedings, representing clients at hearings and participating in judicial mediations.
- Day-to-day advisory work – Providing practical advice on disciplinary and grievance matters, absence management, workplace policies and procedures, and wider employee relations issues.
- Transactional support – Advising on the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions, due diligence exercises and TUPE matters.
- Contracts and agreements – Drafting and reviewing employment contracts, consultancy and service agreements and Non-Executive Director appointments.
- Restructuring and workforce change – Advising on restructures, redundancies, settlement agreements and negotiated exits, balancing legal considerations with clients’ commercial objectives.
- Business protection – Working alongside dispute resolution colleagues on restrictive covenants, post-termination obligations and related disputes.
- Client relationships – Building trusted relationships and becoming a valued adviser who understands clients, their businesses and the commercial challenges they face.
- Training and thought leadership – Delivering client training and webinars and contributing to articles, legal updates and other employment law content.
- Collaboration – Working closely with colleagues across different practice areas to provide clients with joined-up, commercially focused legal solutions.
Our client is seeking an Employment Lawyer with established experience in employment law, ideally operating at Associate level, although applications from lawyers at other levels with the right experience are welcomed.
Ideally you will bring:
- Experience across contentious and non-contentious employment matters, with a strong interest in contentious work.
- Strong technical knowledge of employment and discrimination law.
- Experience of Employment Tribunal litigation and advocacy support.
- Some exposure to transactional employment work, including M&A and TUPE, would be advantageous.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- A practical, commercial and solutions-focused approach.
- The confidence to manage your own matters and develop strong relationships with clients.
- The ability to manage a varied workload while working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- An enthusiastic approach to business development, networking and building your professional profile.
This is a role offering high-quality work, genuine variety and the opportunity to continue developing your career within a respected Employment Law practice.
You’ll benefit from:
- A varied caseload spanning contentious, advisory and transactional employment work.
- Significant exposure to Employment Tribunal litigation and complex disputes.
- The opportunity to work directly with an established and diverse client base.
- Scope to develop your own client relationships and play an active role in business development.
- Collaboration with lawyers across other specialist practice areas on complex matters.
- A supportive environment where mentoring, professional development and career progression are genuinely encouraged.
- A culture that values commercial thinking and practical solutions rather than simply providing technical legal advice.
- High-quality work combined with an appreciation of flexibility, wellbeing and work-life balance.
