Job Description

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Protection Solicitor (up to 3 years’ PQE) to join Thorntons’ specialist Data Protection team in Glasgow. This role is ideal for a Scottish-qualified solicitor with a genuine interest in data protection, privacy, and information law who is looking to develop their expertise within a respected, forward-thinking Scottish law firm.

You will work closely with a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, providing trusted, practical advice on UK data protection law and information governance. The role offers exposure to a broad range of advisory, compliance, and contentious data protection matters, allowing you to build strong client relationships and deliver commercially focused solutions in an evolving regulatory landscape. Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on compliance with UK data protection laws, including the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
  • Draft and review data protection policies, privacy notices, DPIAs, data processing and data sharing agreements
  • Provide guidance on data protection clauses within commercial contracts
  • Support clients with data breach investigations, regulatory reporting, and engagement with the ICO
  • Advise on and assist with data subject rights requests, including access, erasure, and rectification
  • Provide guidance on Freedom of Information requests and confidentiality issues
  • Deliver client training and provide day-to-day advice on data protection best practice
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments to deliver integrated legal solutions

About You

  • Scottish-qualified Solicitor with up to 3 years’ PQE
  • Demonstrable interest in data protection, privacy, and information law
  • Strong analytical skills with a pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Able to manage multiple matters and deadlines effectively
  • Calm, commercial, and client-focused approach
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment
