This is not just a role—it’s a genuine career opportunity for a lawyer with ambition, offering a clear and supported path toward leadership within one of Scotland’s top-tier practices.
The firm is recognised for its excellence in the construction sector and acts for a broad mix of high-calibre clients, including national developers, energy companies, local authorities, and major contractors. You’ll work on a varied and challenging caseload of construction and infrastructure disputes—adjudications, arbitrations, litigation, and strategic risk management—many of which are high-profile, high-value, and often cross-border in nature. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues across the wider real estate, planning, and projects teams on large-scale developments and major infrastructure work.
What sets this role apart is the clarity of its progression path. The firm is actively seeking someone who can grow into a leadership position—someone who is not only technically strong but ready to step into greater responsibility. Whether your goal is to become Legal Director or progress to full Partnership, this role provides the platform, the mentorship, and the visibility to make that a reality. You’ll be encouraged to take ownership of client relationships, lead on key matters, and play an integral part in business development. There is a very real appetite within the team and the wider firm to support that next generation of leaders.
Crucially, the firm understands that exceptional client service doesn’t have to come at the cost of work-life balance. In recent years, it has made a deliberate and well-received shift to reduce billable hour targets—recognising the importance of sustainability in long-term legal careers. This is a firm where performance is measured not just in hours, but in impact, collaboration, and client satisfaction.
You’ll need at least six years’ post-qualification experience in contentious construction, ideally gained within a respected commercial practice. Strong working knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts is important, as is experience managing adjudications, arbitrations, or litigation. A Scottish qualification is preferred, but the team is also open to strong candidates qualified elsewhere, provided you have relevant experience and a genuine commitment to building your career in the Scottish market.
You’ll be joining a firm with a progressive and inclusive culture, where people are approachable, hard-working, and supportive. Work-life balance is respected, flexible working is embraced, and there’s a shared pride in delivering excellence for clients without losing sight of the human side of legal practice.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your construction law career and want to join a team where you can genuinely progress, develop, and lead, we’d love to hear from you.
