Job Description

Legal Director / Partner – Contentious Construction

Glasgow or Edinburgh | Hybrid Working

Ready to lead, influence strategy and build something of your own?

If you're a senior Contentious Construction lawyer feeling constrained by bureaucracy, limited progression or a lack of autonomy, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

I'm working exclusively with a highly regarded Scottish independent firm that is looking to appoint a Legal Director or Partner to play a pivotal role in the growth of its Construction practice.

This isn't simply another senior fee-earning position. It's a genuine leadership opportunity where you'll have the freedom to shape the direction of the team, develop your own client relationships and make a lasting impact within a firm that values entrepreneurial thinking.

The Role:

You'll advise a broad range of clients including developers, contractors, consultants, insurers, public sector organisations and commercial businesses on complex and high-value construction disputes.

Your caseload will include:

  • Adjudications, arbitrations and court proceedings
  • Payment, delay and defects disputes
  • Professional negligence claims
  • Disputes arising under JCT, NEC and SBCC contracts
  • Strategic risk management and dispute avoidance
  • Supporting clients through all stages of construction and infrastructure projects

Alongside managing high-quality work, you'll be encouraged to play a visible role in business development, strengthen existing client relationships and help drive the continued growth of the practice.

Who They're Looking For:

You'll be an experienced Scottish-qualified solicitor with a strong reputation in contentious construction work. Whether you're already operating at Partner level or you're an ambitious Legal Director ready to make that step, this firm is keen to speak with lawyers who enjoy building relationships and want to influence the future of a successful team.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Significant experience advising on complex construction disputes
  • Strong commercial awareness and a solutions-focused approach
  • An interest in mentoring and developing junior lawyers
  • A collaborative style and a genuine desire to help grow the practice

A client following would be advantageous but isn't essential. More important is your ambition, credibility and ability to build long-term relationships.

Why Make the Move?

There are plenty of firms offering quality work. What sets this opportunity apart is the platform.

You'll be joining a firm where decisions are made quickly, your contribution is recognised, and you'll have the opportunity to influence strategy rather than simply deliver it. The Construction team has an excellent reputation in the market, a loyal client base and exciting plans for continued expansion.

In return, you'll benefit from:

  • A genuine route to Equity (if not already a Partner)
  • High-quality, complex and varied work
  • The opportunity to help shape and grow a successful practice
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership team
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • A highly competitive remuneration and benefits package

If you've been considering your next move and want a role that offers more than just another title, I'd be delighted to have a confidential discussion.
