Business Analyst, Temporary (up to 2 years), 35 hours per week, £50,318pa

After more than a decade of campaigning for legislative reform, the Regulation of Legal Services (Scotland) Act 2025 marks a fundamental shift in how legal services are regulated in Scotland. As we continue to deliver one of the most significant programmes of regulatory reform in our history, we are looking for a talented and motivated Business Analyst to join our team.

This role will support the delivery of the Society's Regulatory Transformation Programme by helping to shape how regulatory change is translated into effective operational practice. The role will play a key part in the implementation of new regulatory frameworks for Authorised Legal Businesses (ALBs), reforms to complaints handling, and other major regulatory initiatives.

Working across Regulation, Operational and corporate teams, you will analyse business needs, gather and document requirements, map current and future processes, assess impacts and support the design of practical solutions that enable successful delivery of change. You will help bridge the gap between legislative and policy requirements and the everyday processes, systems and services that support regulation.

The role involves working closely with colleagues, senior leaders and external stakeholders to understand challenges, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure that decisions are informed by clear evidence and analysis. You will facilitate workshops, develop options and recommendations, and contribute to the successful implementation of sustainable organisational change.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse and document business requirements across Regulatory Transformation projects and workstreams
• Gather, validate and prioritise business requirements through stakeholder engagement and structured analysis
• Map current and future-state business processes, customer journeys and operational workflows
• Identify opportunities for service improvement, process simplification and enhanced operational effectiveness
• Facilitate workshops, interviews and analysis sessions to understand business needs and build shared understanding of proposed changes
• Assess impacts, risks, dependencies and implementation considerations associated with regulatory reform initiatives
• Develop and maintain requirements documentation, process maps, decision logs and other analysis artefacts
• Work collaboratively with project managers, regulatory colleagues, operational teams, technology specialists and external partners to support successful delivery
• Support business readiness and implementation activities to ensure new solutions meet intended business outcomes
• Produce clear analysis, recommendations and options to support governance, decision-making and delivery assurance.

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience of business analysis, process improvement and organisational change activity
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and develop evidence-based recommendations
• Experience of gathering, documenting and managing business requirements
• Knowledge of process mapping, stakeholder engagement and impact assessment techniques
• Ability to facilitate workshops and engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Experience of working within project or programme delivery environments
• A collaborative, adaptable and results-focused approach
• Demonstrates the Law Society of Scotland values of Respect, Openness, Progress, Inclusion and Integrity.

Desirable

• Experience of supporting business transformation, regulatory reform or organisational change initiatives
• Knowledge of legal services regulation, professional regulation or public interest regulation
• Experience of working within a public sector, professional membership or governance environment
• Experience of business analysis methodologies, tools or qualifications
• Experience of supporting continuous improvement and organisational change.
