Throughout the contract, you'll gain hands-on experience and develop a deep understanding of the legal challenges and opportunities within the energy industry. Working alongside various teams you'll engage in meaningful work, supporting our legal team in various legal matters and projects.

You will undertake placements within our three UK businesses (Networks, Renewables and Customer), along with our corporate area and will also have the opportunity to undertake an external secondment. The traineeship will provide you with the opportunity to experience several different legal disciplines including property, planning and environmental law, commercial contracts, construction law, energy regulation, public law, merger and aquisition, energy projects and litigation.

You'll have the unique opportunity to rotate around various businesses, gaining valuable knowledge and experience across the different legal disciplines which are relevant to our business. You will also help to ensure compliance with the governance processes applicable to ScottishPower, including all corporate policies, best practices and information requirements in force throughout the Group, and assist in their implementation and application.

In case you missed it, you'll find more information on our graduate programme on our Graduates Page (opens in a new window).

What you’ll bring

To excel in this role, you'll need an honours degree in Scots law (LL.B.) (or equivalent), demonstrating a strong academic foundation in key legal principles. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to effectively engage with stakeholders and contribute to the success of our legal team. An interest in the energy sector, a strong focus on delivering first-class customer service and adding value is also important. You should have a desire to develop your ability to persuade, challenge, influence and build credibility at all levels and within all functions of the organisation. Your passion for law and commitment to excellence will drive your professional growth and contribute to the achievement of our Net Zero goals.

Alongside a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including ongoing training and development opportunities, a supportive work environment and the chance to work on cutting-edge projects at the forefront of the journey to Net Zero
