Job Description

We are looking for ambitious Trainee Solicitors who want to develop their career with an innovative, customer-focused legal firm. The Role

The 2 year traineeship will involve working closely with our team of dedicated Solicitors and Senior Paralegals on both Residential Conveyancing and Private Client legal work. Based in our Head Office in South Gyle, Edinburgh and from time-to-time working with the team in our Glasgow Office, you will work towards becoming an expert in all of the legal processes involved in carrying-out both residential sale and purchase transactions, remortgage conveyancing and private client legal services including wills, powers of attorney and executries.

Our legal team handles a rich mix of self-generated and introduced conveyancing work, so you will have the opportunity to work with some of the UK’s leading housebuilders and financial advisers in addition to the firm’s own estate agency clients. This is an exciting opportunity to carry out your traineeship in a growing, professional and fast-paced team.

During your traineeship you will provide a first class service, building client trust and confidence. You will ensure that clients are supported and provided with appropriate advice and recommendations.   • General administrative tasks including opening new client case files;
  • Effective monitoring and scrutiny of files to ensure timescales are met and that paperwork is processed, filed and kept up-to-date;
  • Liaising with third party suppliers involved in the conveyancing process;
  • Assist in anti-money laundering, source of funds and wealth and general compliance checks including assessing transactional risk;
  • Develop strong relations and keep clients up-to-date with the progress of their transaction both via email and telephone;
  • Assist Solicitors and Senior Paralegals in providing advice to clients on residential conveyancing transactions;
  • Support Solicitors and Senior Paralegals to take instructions for the sale and purchase of properties, examining titles, transfers of title, new build purchases, security discharges and private client remortgage work;
  • Assist Solicitors in providing advice to clients on Wills, Powers of Attorney and Executries.

Essential Qualities Include:

  • A completed Bachelor of Laws degree - LLB Scots Law;
  • Diploma in Legal Practice ;
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills;
  • IT literacy in a range of systems and software;
  • A demonstrable work ethic;
  • Positive attitude and outlook;
  • A desire to be challenged and to challenge the norm.

Desirable Qualities Include:

  • Previous experience of working in a private client or high volume, introduced conveyancing or remortgage law firm;
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced working environment;
  • Excellent typing skills, including the ability to touch type.
