Solicitor to Interventions in our Interventions Team, Permanent, 5 days, 35 hours per week.  Salary is £61,972 per annum

It is an exciting time to join the Law Society of Scotland. Due to the retirement of the current postholder, we have an opportunity within the Interventions team for a Solicitor to Interventions. This role provides key support and assistance to the Judicial Factor and Head of Interventions, in the operation of Judicial Factory appointments and Interventions of law firms under the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980. This role plays an important part in protecting the public and maintaining confidence in the legal profession. You will deal with interesting, technical and high-profile work as we seek to protect and support the public when intervention is required in a law firm.

Key Responsibilities for this role

To provide professional solicitor advice and assistance to the Judicial Factor and Head of Interventions (“JFHOI”) and to the wider Interventions team, to ensure legally competent, effective, proportionate, and best practice decision making regarding the operation of Judicial Factor appointments and Interventions in law firms under the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980

To react and respond at short notice to proposed Judicial Factory appointments and Interventions, to include quickly reviewing and assessing a significant volume of complex information, and identify immediate actions and risks

Working with the JFHOI in the disposal of practices and assisting the acquiring firm in dealing with work in progress, mandates, release of client funds, negligence and other issues

Liaison with the Master Policy insurers regarding claims by clients or agents against the firm’s insurance

Monitor, review and respond to data protection matters, including Subject Access Requests and data destruction

Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

A Scottish solicitor with a practising certificate
A minimum of five years’ post-qualifying experience
Significant experience in key practice areas (conveyancing, wills, trusts, executries)
A minimum of five years’ post-qualifying experience
Team working
Legal advisory skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Project development, management and delivery, report writing
Planning and management of own workload
Knowledge of data protection requirements
