Job Description

We specialise in family law, immigration law, criminal law and general dispute resolution in the Sheriff Court, Sheriff Appeal Court and Court of Session (Outer & Inner House). MBS Solicitors regularly advise on complex and high-value cases from clients across the globe and are regularly ranked amongst the leading firms for excellence in client-care.

We have an immediate opportunity for a family law solicitor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 2 years PQE practising across the full range of family law matters including divorce, financial provision, adoption, child abduction, contact and relocation disputes as well as experience conducting written and oral advocacy experience in the Sheriff Court. We may consider an NQ who has undertaken a seat in family law and who otherwise has strong advocacy experience.

This role will involve:

  • Meeting with clients, providing in-depth advice independently and conducting negotiations on a privately funded and SLAB funded basis. Experience of using SLAB online is highly desirable but training can be provided if necessary;
  • Preparing separation agreements to resolve financial provision disputes and disputes relating to children;
  • Drafting initial writs and conducting oral advocacy in the Sheriff Court. Experience of instructing Counsel and an understanding of Court of Session procedure is desirable, but not essential;
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues including advising on the family law aspects of immigration/criminal/general dispute resolution matters

Candidates must demonstrate excellent written communication skills and work together as part of a team.

We offer a competitive salary and generous annual leave package. We may discuss the possibility of flexible working with the successful candidate.
