Job Description

Core-Asset Consulting’s client, a leading legal firm, has a new opportunity for a Rural Property Solicitor / Senior Solicitor 1 to 4 years PQE to work within a well-respected and leading Rural Property Department working out the firms Edinburgh office. The Land & Rural Business sector is a vibrant and exciting part of the Scottish economy that is constantly changing and requires solicitors that can adapt to clients’ needs and expectations.

The firms aim is to be the ‘Go-to firm’ acting for estates, farming and rural businesses, lenders, funders, developers and public-sector organisations across Scotland. They already have a well-established and one of the largest dedicated teams in this sector offering not only market leading legal but also first rate strategic and commercial advice.

The successful individual will work closely to build solid working relationships with a range of clients and other senior lawyers in the team and will, therefore, you will have a great opportunity to learn and be involved in many aspects of rural property. Therefore, it is important you have excellent client facing skills and enjoy being involved in building and maintaining client relationships on an ongoing basis.

Core responsibilities:

  • Purchase, sale and funding of estates
  • Ongoing management of large estates to include: agricultural holdings work, plot sales, trustee conveyancing, minerals
  • Commercial and non-commercial development relating to large estates (including small and large-scale renewables projects and residential developments)
  • Purchase, sale and management of sporting interests including salmon fishing’s and grouse moors
  • Purchase, sale and funding of farms and related farming activities (such as contract farming agreements)
  • Support for various commercial property transactions that are being managed by associates within the team

Core Individual:

  • 1 to 4 Years PQE Scottish Qualified Solicitor
  • Previous experience of working in property is essential
  • Committed to highest level of client care and service
  • Works to understand the department’s key clients, the industry they operate in and the challenges they face
  • Committed to taking personal responsibility to learn on the job and keep knowledge up to date
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Communicates in a clearly and concisely
  • Adapts style of communication appropriately when dealing with colleagues and clients
  • Research skills
  • Takes responsibility for own transactions and advice, subject to supervision
