Job Description

To assist the Legal Services Manager in the effective management and delivery of a comprehensive range of legal services to the Force and Police Authority, in particular legal work associated with Litigation and Advice; and to deputise for the Legal Services Manager in his/her absence in respect of such matters.

You will represent (including by way of appearance) the Chief Constable and/or the Police Authority in civil litigation in the Scottish Courts and Tribunals, including Fatal Accident Inquiries, Summary and Statutory Applications to the Sheriff, and Employment Tribunals.  Also, to instruct representation for the Chief Constable and Police Authority in civil litigation in which they are parties in jurisdictions out with Scotland; and to represent, by appearance where appropriate, or by way of instruction of suitable Counsel or Solicitor Advocate, the Chief Constable or Police Authority’s interests in criminal proceedings at the District, Sheriff or High Court, including in response to petitions seeking commission and diligence for recovery of documents.
