In this new role you will have responsibility for all aspects of corporate and commercial related work that are relevant to the Practice Teams of which the Associate is a member.

Your duties will include:

  • Advising clients, in keeping with the internal policies and procedures, with respect to all aspects of client matters assigned to the Corporate and Commercial practice group.
  • Representing the group in dealings with other law firms, government representatives, agencies, and other professionals involved with the client’s matters.
  • Responsible for developing a thorough understanding of each assigned client’s business and business philosophy, and for communicating that knowledge to whomever within the group may work on the client’s matters.
  • Taking instructions from other lawyers or clients including suggesting, recommending and drafting instruments for a particular matter, involving lawyers in other practice groups, where necessary or relevant.
  • Reviewing and preparing contracts, including acquisitions and joint ventures, complex commercial transactions, mergers, buy-outs and other corporate transactions.
  • Responsible for effective practice management in keeping with internal policies and procedures.
  • Assisting in updating Knowledge Management data as it relates to corporate related work.
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of the law, both locally and internationally as it may impact the Guernsey office and its clients.

The Knowledge, Skills and Experience required is as follows;

  • Must be a qualified lawyer with up to 5 years PQE in any one or more of Funds, Mergers and Acquisitions, Capital Markets, Listings and general corporate work ideally gained within a leading international or offshore law firm is preferred.
  • Knowledge of company law, commercial law and all other appropriate legal areas having regard to area of specialisation and level of qualification.
  • Good academic record, as evidenced by degree and other exams and course grades.
