CALA Management Ltd are looking to recruit a Legal Counsel to join their in-house team for (at least) 12 -15 months to cover maternity leave. The position, which is based in Edinburgh, will report to the Head of Legal. The successful candidate will be expected to take on significant levels of responsibility for relationships within the business as well as managing a busy work load.
Responsibilities will include providing general legal advice to the business, carrying out general compliance training and legal audits. You will provide general support on commercial and corporate matters as well as assisting on property matters. There will be an element of Company secretarial duties i.e. processing board appointments and resignations, updating powers of attorney, filing companies house forms, accounts, maintaining statutory books and PSC registers, maintaining the register of directors’ interests and looking after company data protection registrations. You will ensure the business complies with laws and regulations that concern their products and services and promote best practice across the business through training, research and teaching.
You will be responsible for implementing any programmes agreed with the Head of Legal for the restructuring of internal systems. You will offer social media support to the Marketing team, and support the Head of Legal with initiatives where they are the Executive sponsor. You will resolve legal and strategic issues facing the business and develop expertise on litigation and regulation impacting the business. You will be required to liaise with external legal advisors as well as external investors and funders to obtain necessary approvals.
The ideal candidate will hold a university degree and accreditation as a Solicitor or Barrister in England or Scotland, with 4 – 6 years post qualification experience in litigation and/ or a commercial background. You must have excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills in addition to strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others. This is a fast paced role so you need to be adaptable with the ability to react to conflicting priorities.
