A career with Ofgem is a unique professional opportunity. Our work touches on virtually all of the 26 million households and businesses in Great Britain who are energy consumers. It’s an exciting era of change and evolution within the energy marketplace – new technology and the drive towards a low-carbon energy sector are shaping a new energy system that is more decentralised, smart and flexible. And Ofgem is at the forefront of this change.
In addition, we are centralising our legal teams (including E-Serve) to be headed up by a General Counsel (new role), who will report to the CEO and lead our lawyers taking responsibility for the organisational legal risk. The legal teams will still partner with the business as they do today, but through this change Ofgem will be able to deliver a more streamlined and consistent approach, and work more flexibly across boundaries.
The vacancies are within the following legal teams:

You’ll help to ensure that policy recommendations are legally sound, and that possible risks or legal challenges are identified, explored and mitigated. It’s a fast-paced and professionally rewarding working environment, and you should be confident delivering under pressure and managing competing demands. Our Senior Legal Advisers may also have the opportunity to manage other colleagues – offering advice, support and professional development.
You should offer strong skills in analysis, use of evidence and sound legal judgement, and professional experience of advising in a relevant professional area. Good all round communication skills, including high standards in drafting are essential. You should be a committed team player, and have a good track record of delivery in a multi-disciplinary environment. Plus have relevant PQE work. If you can also demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills, you could be considered for one of our Senior Legal Adviser roles.
Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
