Do you want the opportunity to represent the interests of your fellow solicitor advocates in the work of the Law Society of Scotland? Do you want to help us lead legal excellence and influence key decisions?
The Society is inviting Scottish solicitor advocates to apply to become the first ever dedicated representative for solicitor advocates on the Law Society Council.
The Council is the Society's decision-making body and is made up of 39 members elected from geographical constituencies, up to nine co-opted members representing other interest groups and nine non-solicitor members.
In the course of your three year appointment starting on 27 October 2017, you will be invited to attend Council meetings which are held in Edinburgh - video and telephone conferencing facilities are available. You will also be encouraged to join one of the Society’s many committees – again with the magic of technology, much of this can be done remotely.
If you would like to apply, you must be a member of the Society and be supported by two proposers, who must be either practising or non-practising members of the Society.
Nomination forms and candidate information forms are available by clicking on the 'Apply' button below must be sent to davidcullen(at)lawscot.org.uk by noon, 30 August 2017.
Please note, if more than one solicitor nominates themselves for the solicitor advocate vacancy, there will be a contested election. Voting will take place from 6 September to 20 September 2017 and the Society will publish all results on the website.
This is a voluntary position.
