An exciting new role has arisen for a Legal Counsel at this well-established business with its head office in Edinburgh.

You will operate as a functional specialist providing insightful, high quality output, legal advice and guidance, tailored to a range of stakeholder needs, with a primary focus on the Retail Banking products area, covering savings, personal current accounts including overdrafts and the channel their products are sold through.

The successful applicant will;

  • Act as a source of professional legal expertise, providing advice as a trusted advisor to stakeholders and assisting with the development of policy and procedures.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on legal issues, able to be the sole representative for an area.
  • Maintain an awareness of external legal developments and how these affect the business.
  • Provide Legal technical input to support delivery of projects.
  • Contribute to reporting and escalation of legal or governance issues within own/ supported area, inputting to recommended solutions as required.
  • Lead specific projects and reviews within the Legal function.
  • Collaborate with Legal colleagues to share business and legal knowledge and best practice.
  • Provide advice on terms and conditions, marketing and other customer communications, new product development, operational queries and legal issues arising in connection with the products and services referred to in the core purpose section above.

This is an exciting career opportunity within an innovative business with a real commitment to developing its people.  Ideally our client is looking for someone at the 1-4 years’ pqe level and with a background in retail banking, financial services, consumer credit, regulatory, commercial contracts, debt recovery litigation or in-house experience.  An NQ 2017 with a seat in retail banking, financial services or a secondment will also be considered.  This is a unique legal role and ongoing training and support will be provided.  (Assignment 9408)
