Main Location - Glasgow. Legal Services Agency (“LSA”) are currently operating a remote service due to COVID -19 pandemic. We are working towards reintroducing safe office based work which will protect service users, staff and visitors, in compliance with all public health advice.
LSA is Scotland’s largest Law Centre. Through its solicitors and other staff, operating as Brown & Co. Legal LLP, LSA has a 30 year legacy of serving individuals, families and communities across Scotland, addressing unmet legal need and the effects of poverty, disadvantage and discrimination. LSA’s legal service has developed pioneering legal remedies through test cases and campaigns on issues such as dampness, housing repair and evictions, Criminal Injuries Compensation, mental health law and asylum and immigration law. LSA also delivers a wide range of seminars and training programmes and publications on legal themes. In response to the challenges created by COVID -19, LSA are launching a new Employment Law Service designed to help meet the increased demand for advice and representation in the area of employment rights.
About the role
We are looking for a candidate who can help us set up and deliver our new Employment Law Service, which will provide a full range of legal advice and representation on employment law including contractual disputes, equalities and human rights issues, discrimination within employment, irregularities with pay and holiday entitlements, redundancy and unfair dismissal. The role will also involve the dissemination of information and updates on employment rights, and the design and delivery of training on aspects of employment law for lay representatives, LSA staff and Third Sector organisations. The post holder will assist the Chief Executive in reporting to funders on progress of the Employment Law Service.
You will be a solicitor entitled to hold a Law Society of Scotland Practising Certificate, with at least 3 years’ post qualifying experience, including 2 years’ experience in employment law. You will be a highly motivated and resilient individual who welcomes challenges. You will have experience of handling your own caseload and will be expected to do so within the overall casework management system operated by Brown & Co. Legal LLP. You will be accustomed to dealing with a range of clients, including vulnerable people. It is anticipated that you will have experience of working in a team setting.
