Job Title: Deputy Head of Legal

Location: Edinburgh

Salary: up to £65,000

Hours: 35 hours per week (Full-time)

Winn Solicitors (Scotland) LLP offers a specialist accident claims service, focusing on all elements of the claims process to help our clients deal with the fall-out of a non-fault accident.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head of Legal to join our busy team. The successful candidate will assist the Partner - Head of Legal with the day-to-day running of the business, leading a team of solicitors and paralegals, as well as managing their own varied caseload including RTA, EL and PL cases.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Partner - Head of Legal with the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring efficiency, quality and compliance.
  • Identify areas for improvement and contribute to the development of solutions that enhance processes and workflows.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Deliver exceptional Client Care in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Maximise income per case through the recovery of damages to include hire, repairs, recovery, and storage.
  • Prepare and conduct cases thoroughly, ensuring the gathering of all requisite evidence.
  • Abide by and follow all Company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with Information Security Policies including data confidentiality and the operational security of the Information systems used.
  • Report all issues, problems and compliance breached in a timely manner to the appropriate level of management.
  • Carry out ad hoc tasks or additional duties as deemed fit and appropriate by the Partner - Head of Legal for this post and the associated level or responsibility attached to it.

Person Specification

  • Admitted in Scotland with a minimum of 4 years + PQE.
  • A good understanding of credit hire would be desirable but is not essential.
  • Experience in Court litigation including conducting cases in the Court of Session and Sheriff Court.
  • Extensive experience in drafting.
  • Skills and/or experience of leading a team within a commercial environment.
  • An ability to build and maintains strong relationships with clients, addressing concerns and ensuring their needs are met effectively.
  • Help set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations to drive team development and success.
  • An ability to work towards the collective shared goals and objectives.
  • Experience of demonstrating effective team leading within a commercial environment.
  • Ability to identify where problems may arise and adopt a solution focused approach.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • IT literate.
  • Ability to develop and motivate self and others.
  • Commitment to own personal development.
