Members of our committees and subcommittees play a vital role in the running of the Law Society, and carry out valuable work for the profession and the public.

Job Description

 

We are now recruiting for solicitors and non-solicitors for the committees listed below, along with a number of convener positions. You can read committee remits and about the work they do on the committee pages of our website. We are also recruiting a Board member, a solicitor member with less than 10 years PQE.

Law Society Board 

We have a vacancy on the Law Society’s Board for a solicitor with less than 10 years PQE.

The Board is one of the key governance committees at the Society. It meets 11 times per annum on the second Monday of each month. This post attracts a payment of £2,612 to the post holder. You can read more about the Board and it's current members on our website. Convener posts

We have three vacancies for conveners across the following committees: 

  • Access to Justice committee (a solicitor Law Society Council member with 5 years PQE failing which a solicitor member)
  • Client protection subcommittee (a solicitor Law Society Council member with preferably 1 year on Council and experience of membership of a regulatory subcommittee or the regulatory committee)
  • Competition law subcommittee (experience in competition Law)

The post of convener to the Access to Justice Committee attracts a payment of £5,223 to the post holder. The post of convener to the Client Protection subcommittee attracts a payment of £7,833 to the post holder.

Regulatory Committee and sub committees

Regulatory Committee

There is one vacancy for a lay member on our Regulatory Committee. 

The Regulatory Committee has responsibility for the operation of the Society’s regulatory functions. Our regulatory sub committees report to this committee.

The following regulatory sub committees have vacancies as follows: 

  • Appeals & Reviews sub committee – 2 lay members
  • Client Relations sub committee – 1 lay and 1 solicitor member
  • Complaints Oversight sub committee – 1 lay member
  • Practising Certificate sub committee – 2 lay members
  • Professional Conduct sub committee – 5 lay members
  • Rights of Audience sub committee – 1 lay member
  • Rules, Waivers & Guidance sub committee – 1 lay and 1 solicitor member

Areas of practice / sector committees

The following committees have vacancies as follows: 

  • Legal Aid committee – solicitors specialising in civil legal aid
  • Senior Solicitor Advocate Accreditation Committee – 1 lay and 1 solicitor member
