The course is run on an annual basis for those applying for civil extended rights of audience under S25A Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980 and is facilitated by the Society’s CPD and Training team. The training usually takes place over three weekends across January, February and March.
The Course Convener will be responsible for conducting the course, including overseeing the programme and ensuring delivery of appropriate areas of training and assessment, determining appropriate number of days of sitting in and considering sitting in exemptions.
S25A of the Solicitors (Scotland) Act 1980 is supplemented by Rule C4 of the Law Society of Scotland Practice Rules 2011. Rule C4.1 relates to civil extended rights of audience. Rule C4.1 also sets out the minimum requirements for the course of Training in Evidence, Pleading and Procedure and those conducting the course, including the Course Convener. The Course Convener position will attract an appropriate fee.
