Job Description

Vacancy: Family Law Solicitor

An exciting role for a Solicitor is vacant on Edinburgh Women's Aid Legal Services Project, a partnership project by Baker Gostelow Family Law (BGFL), Scottish Women’s Aid (SWA) and Edinburgh Women's Aid (EWA), funded by a directed grant by SLAB. Legal services for the Project are provided by BGFL by whom the successful candidate will be employed.

Working closely with BGFL Director, the Project’s Senior Solicitor, and Project support staff, the successful candidate will take a collaborative and sensitive approach to delivering legal information, advice and assistance where we identify unmet legal need to women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse being supported by EWA.

Project work largely focuses on providing early and much needed legal advice to women on family law matters including separation, financial and property claims arising therefrom, parental rights and responsibilities, child contact and residence arrangements, protection from domestic abuse and housing / occupancy rights. The successful candidate may also be asked to contribute to policy, training and research. Candidates must have some experience in family law and an awareness of domestic abuse. Training on these areas will also be provided.

Location: Home based working with some in person appointments at the offices of Edinburgh Women’s Aid

Salary Scale: £38,000 - £45,000 FTE per annum, commensurate with experience

Contract: Fixed Term until 31/03/2026; Part-time (2 days per week with scope to explore alternative part time hours or flexible working)

Closing date: 12 noon on Friday 23 February 2024

This post is suitable for solicitors with post-qualifying experience preferably in the area of family law and is restricted to women under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act (2010). Previous applicants need not re-apply.
