Job Description

The Team

The Education, Training and Qualifications Team has a varied role which includes setting standards for qualification as a Scottish solicitor; accrediting university providers of the LLB degree and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice; the regulatory processes associated with training contracts and admission to the Scottish solicitor profession; schools outreach work and support for students, trainees and newly qualified solicitors; qualification as a solicitor advocate; accreditation as a specialist in a specific area of law; admission as a Notary Public; and equality and diversity.

The Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and organised individual to administer and develop the processes that regulate Scottish solicitor traineeships and admission to the solicitor profession and to provide guidance and support to trainees and training units.  The role will involve leading on quality assurance of traineeships; ensuring compliance with Regulations; acting as a committee secretary; leading and motivating a team of administrators; and development of policies and guidance.  The successful candidate will be fully supported by others in the team. 

The Candidate

To succeed in this role, you must have experience in a policy, regulatory or legal role, with an ability to exercise judgement, a problem solving focus, evidence of the ability to manage people, and an effective communicator with strong presentation skills.

You will be expected to lead a team to deliver effective regulation and process improvement and quality assurance initiatives in relation to the regulation of Scottish solicitor traineeships.
