Interim In-house Data Protection Solicitor

Job Description

With the opportunity to be involved in great quality of work and colleagues, our client has identified a need for additional support in the legal team, for an initial period of 6 months. Ideally you will have at least 5 years’ pqe, preferably with specialist expertise in data protection.  A broader commercial experience in contracts would also be helpful to the team.  The key result areas for this interim post include:-

• Interpret highly complex legislation and common law as the same relates to data protection, privacy and information governance, analyse and advise on it and propose legal solutions.
• Advise on compliance with the prevailing data protection and privacy laws and the impact of Brexit on such laws.
• Assess the need for training on new, complex, developing areas of information governance laws and policy.
• Co-ordinate, plan and organise response and resource allocation in respect of Subject Access Requests, including sourcing staff resource from other departments.
• Amending, updating and developing  policies and procedures relating to information governance matters and laying them before the Information Governance Group.
• Establish relationships with relevant key clients and contacts, other individuals with information governance roles.
• The postholder will also: (a) advise on data protection issues as they specifically pertain to matters of employment and this may include the provision of training to clients on such issues; (b) provide data protection support to Litigation Solicitors, including in relation to public inquiries and general litigation matters; and (c) assist with Freedom of Information queries raised by clients.
