A new national approach to tackling bullying has been launched in Scotland by Children's Minister Adam Ingram MSP.
Speaking in Glasgow earlier this week, he said:
"We all want children to feel safe and secure - in school and out of school. Bullying behaviour can seriously affect this and should not, given is potentially long lasting consequences, be simply dismissed as a normal part of growing up. It isn't."
The new national approach has been developed by the Scottish Anti-Bullying Steering Group and will create a framework for tackling the problem by creating common visions and aims.
It will also clarify the range of roles and responsibilities people can take to help prevent bullying. The government wants to ensure there is consistency across the country and between school and out-of-school groups.
In England, Schools Minister Nick Gibb MP told the News of the World this week that tackling bullying will be a priority for the coalition government.
